Film Richmond is the film office for the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and is based at the Civic Centre in Twickenham.  Run by Sue Lewis and Sarah Hillman it should be your first stop for permissions relating to filming and stills photography.

Richmond, along with a number of other London boroughs, uses a web-based film application process called FilmApp.  The system is designed to help the film maker and the film office.  If you are looking for a location or need some advice regarding filming, please call us on 020 8487 5157.  If you know where you would like to film, this is where you apply.  FilmApp will ask you to register.  When you next apply it will remember who you are and will allow you to autofill the production details.  If you are working on a new production, you will need to enter new production details. Please enter the locations you need, one by one.  There is a fast track for small crews wanting GVs in many locations, and if you are hoping to film driving shots from a moving vehicle you can simply enter the route you intend to take.

PARKING: If you are applying for parking only, you will still need to apply online and attach the parking form that you can download from the bottom right of this page.

PLEASE ENSURE PARKING FORMS ARE COMPLETED CORRECTLY AND THAT ALL FIELDS ARE FILLED IN WITH ACCURATE START AND FINISH TIMES. IT IS VITAL THAT YOU CLEARLY DESCRIBE EXACTLY WHICH BAYS YOU WOULD LIKE SUSPENDED AND THE TYPE OF BAY, PLEASE INCLUDE A PARKING PLAN.  IF YOU HAVE ANY QUERIES REGARDING PARKING, PLEASE CALL THE OFFICE FIRST TO DISCUSS.

All applications must be accompanied by a site specific, signed, location risk assessment.

If your shoot involves the use of a generator or local power then BS7909 will apply.  Information on BS7909 and what you need to do to comply can be found on the right hand side of this page under Useful Documents.

If your shoot involves children aged between 0 and 16 they may not be able to take part in the performance unless licensed to do so by the local authority in whose area he/she lives, if a licence is required. The local authority in accordance with legislation can insist on 21 days notice being required. More information can be obtained from here.

Once you have agreed to the terms and conditions, and submitted your application, you will receive an acknowledgement by email.  If your application is successful, your licence will follow. There will be a fee to pay if you are filming on council property.  You will be invoiced after filming has taken place.
