Covid-19
Production companies will be expected to follow prevailing government guidance about safe working practices and are expected to have familiarised themselves with this guidance. Film London’s document titled ‘Covid-19 Guidance for Location filming’ (https://filmlondon.org.uk/covid-19-updates-and-guidance) provides links to relevant guideance and a checklist of actions for crews to take to ensure that they operate within government guidelines and mitigate the risk of spreading COVID-19 when on location.
The City of London Film Office is here to assist you, if you are looking for a location, please call on 020 7332 3202 / 020 7332 3182, we might be able to help. If you know where you want to film, this is where you make your application.
The City of London, along with other boroughs in London uses a web based film application process called "FilmApp". This has been set up to help the film maker and the film officer alike. The system asks you to register yourself, next time, it remembers who you are and allows you to auto-complete the production details, (the same details you entered the last time you used FilmApp). If you are working on a new production, you will have to enter the new production details.
The idea is to set up the various locations you need one by one until you have entered all the locations in. There is a fast track for small crews wanting GVs in many locations, and if you are intending to film driving shots from a moving vehicle you can simply enter the route you intend to take.
You should note that there is an administration charge for approving online filming applications. These charges can be found on the City of London website: www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/film.
Once you have agreed to the terms and conditions, and submitted your application you will be advised of the relevant admin charge and once payment has been made online you will receive an acknowledgement by e mail. If the you are applying to film on public highway and your application is successful, your Notice of No Objection will follow. Alternatively if you are applying for property that is privately owned by the City of London Corporation there may be a location fee to pay and there will be a contract that you will be required to fill in, sign and return. You will be advised of both of these separately by email. FilmApp is being revised all the time, if you have any difficulty or if you have a suggestion about how we might improve the system, please e-mail on support@apply4.com
Parking, ITC, Closures and Hoarding Licences:
If you require parking, hoarding licences, road closures or ITC for your shoot please see the costs detailed on our website: https://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/services/transport-and-streets/roads-highways-and-pavements/Pages/Highway-licences.aspx. We will need a separate email from you requesting any of these and quoting your FilmApp application reference number.
Please note that parking bays and dispensations may only be suspended for the purpose of essential equipment vehicles and are not for personal vehicles. During the working week (Monday - Friday 7am - 7pm) requests must be limited to essential technical vehicles only and not include Winniebagos and catering vehicles. A minimum of seven working days will be required to process and issue a small to moderate amount of dispensations / bay suspension requests. Productions with a large parking requirement should allow the following:
- 10 plus vehicles or more than 5 bay suspension – two weeks’ notice
- 20 plus vehicles or more than 10 bay suspensions – three weeks’ notice
Once you have made your FilmApp application we will require a separate email from you regarding your parking requirement stating dates, arrival/departure times, any bay numbers that need suspending on each street, the numbers of vehicles needing to park up on each street and what the purpose of each vehicle is.
If you have any difficulties, please call the City Film Office on 0207 332 3202 or 0207 332 3182
