Welcome to the Screen Wellington Film Permitting App

Applying for a Film Permit:

We require a minimum of five business days to process film permit applications. Please ensure your application is submitted well in advance of your intended shoot date. 

To apply to film in the Wellington region, please follow the steps below:


1. Register on FilmApp

  • Create an account and register your production. Each time you log in, you can select an existing production or create a new application.

2. Provide the following documentation:

  • Public Liability Insurance (valid for the filming period)
  • Health & Safety Policy (if you're a student, this should be provided by your school or university)
  • Risk Register for each location
  • Site maps of each location, including annotations (e.g. cast/crew base, cast movement, etc)
Important notes:
  • All health and safety documents and your insurance must be completed and attached in order to submit a filming permit application. 
  • Each day of filming is treated as a seperate 'shoot' in FilmApp. Please reflect this clearly in your application, including the arrivial and departure times of your crew for each day.

Screen Wellington issues and facilitates film permits on behalf of all councils in the Wellington region. This includes Wellington City, Porirua, Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt, Kāpiti and the districts of South Wairarapa, Carterton and Masteron in the Wairarapa.
